OUR CAMPING TRIP PART TWO

Most of the week was spent in thinking about and preparing for our camping trip.  Quite aways up the Angelus Crest Highway, there were several campgrounds :... Charlton Flats, Chilao, and Buckhorn.  Buckhorn was the highest up the mountain and more open to going a little beyond the perimeters of the State Sanctioned Campground.  The State Sanctioned Part included Sanctioned Porta Potties and Stone Tables with Stone Fire Pits and the like.  There were Sanctioned Trash Cans and the Sanctioned Bears knew about them and liked to take little strolls down to the cans for food.  Having driven the Hudson up there recently, I had apprised myself of  an ideal  camp ground a little distance from..humanity and their improvements.  I still had alot of money left and so I bought a two man tent, two new sleeping bags, an ice chest, a coleman cook stove, a hatchet, an axe,  a bottle of Pepto Bismol , toilet paper, soap, paper towels, a bottle of Scotch, a snake venom kit a safety kit with bandages and antiseptic.  I already had good binoculars.  I will remember what I should have bought when I get there !  I wanted Bob to see the grand production of Sun Set and Sun Rise.  I asked Bob to gather his clothing and personal affects and be ready to leave as soon as he got home from school, Friday afternoon.  I forget to tell you I bought ice and thirty dollars worth of groceries including two T-Bone steaks so he could learn how to "season Jeanette's meat!"!!  I met Bob at his home and neither his Mother nor Father had gotten home from work yet.  It could not have been a more beautiful day and on top of that, the Santa Ana Winds were supposed to come in later in the day.  We drove up the Crest..talking all the way.  He was still basking in the very fun prank the night before; it really lit his fire.  He just could not believe that a 73 year old man could be just like he was.....We reached Buck Horn Turn off and I parked the Hudson in the dirt lot.  We unloaded the car and when we surveryed all that we had brought...Bob said  "We are going to have to make two trips...how far is it to your camp?   "About half a mile I said"    Let me draw the curtain of charity over the rest of this scene until Bob calms down.........(to be continued)
