OUR FIRST ADVENTURE AT CRAZY TIME
It was clear to me that both of us had to not focus on any one activity for too long. We put our heads together and decided on what should be our first freaking people out adventure. I had just finished coaching him on a good second letter to send to Jeanette and he was going to start working on it that very night. The days had rolled by and it was Saturday Night once again. His parents agreed that Bob and I could spend some time together that evening and we elected to see what would happen if we stood outside the restaurant window and stared at the people eating at the window seats. This was in line with our mixed activities "program". You know how some advertisements have an adjective after the product such as "Salted Nuts (Mixed) " Bag of Ice (Cracked).....Two guys having Fun (Also Cracked)...We parked the Hudson on Brand and meandered down to Brothertons Buffet Cafeteria. It was dark and I suggested we just walk by the window a number of times to case the joint. Bob suggested we walk together a few times and then come from opposite directions. I built on the idea by saying we should bring about five different shirts and change them for every walk by. We kept thinking and Bob said if we really wanted to make a stir, he should walk by carring a sack and I should sneak up behind and pretend to him in the head, and he would fall down and I would grab his sack and run. Maybe people would run out to see if he was ok and then he would get up and run. We walked by the window and all the window seats were filled. They were elderly people, the teens were at Bob's Big Boy Hamburger stand on Colorado. After we passed bye, we stopped and I asked Bob what he wanted to do. Let's walk by about ten times and they will probably notice us. We did that and after about four walk byes, people started to point at us and and they were talking. I suggested we try the stop and stare in order to see what they would do. So, we did that and we picked the table where an elderly older man and his wife were eating. She looked like a real stuck up snob, very picky. We stopped and stared at them and she waved us away with a swoop of her hand. Bob waved back and smiled at her. Then the husband went into action and he left the table. Was he going to come out and confront us or tell the management. We didn't know, so we ran and hid behind a parked car. He came out with the manager and they talked awhile and then went back into the restaurant. I suggested to Bob that we continue with the same and not do anything different. He agreed. After about ten minutes, we went back and stared at the same couple, only this time we pointed at them and laughed. He tore out of his seat and I felt he was going to handle it himself. So, we ran and hid behind the same car. He started to look around as to where we might be. He went out onto Brand and looked between the cars and we found ourselves down on our haunches and circling cars to keep out of view. He finally gave up and went back inside. After about five minutes, we went back and stared and the man tore out of his seat again and we ran and hid again. This time, the manager came out by himself and looked around and finally went to another car down about five spaces and sat behind the steering wheel and slumped down. It was probably his car. Now, how were we going to get out of there without being seen. I suggested that Bob sneak North a little ways and then come walking from the other end and approach the man in the car and tell him that he saw the two kids drinking beer in their car just down about four more cars, and walk up and stare in window. He did that and the mgr bought it hook, line and sinker. The mgr went back in and when we saw a Police Car stop behind the car with the beer drinking kids, we knew we could go home feeling that we had been a success. (to be continued)
