THE WEENIE ROAST (ME AND ME AND THE GIRLS PART THREE
I began to prepare the get together with Bob early. I started the fire in the BBQ pit in back yard early. I arranged all the food on counter top...Frankfurters. buns. all the condiments, baked beans, and salad. Having done that, I sat in a chair and enjoyed the relaxation of the evening....waiting for Bob to show up. I was enjoying a Scotch and soda. I was an unusual alcoholic in that I never drank until I was drunk...just a good buzz. Alcohol did make me abit less restrained and more creative; at least I thought so. Bob must have smelled the wood smoke as he came down the drive way instead of going to the front door. I could tell that he slicked up before he came down to see me. I gave him a little hug and asked how his day was. He replied: " I hitch-hiked down to Pfeiffers Hobby shop in Glendale and bought a new engine for my next model plane. I am going to build the biggest plane I ever built. I bought a Veco kit called the "Brave" It takes a "C" engine so I bought a McCoy 29 Redhead......I was tempted to get a Fox 35......" I asked him when he had gotten interested in model planes and he said it was when he lived on Norton street in the 40"s. " I used to read Air Trails Magazines and study all the planes and motors. The motors seemed to be living things to me. They seemed to have digestive systems and tempermental feelings." "You like things that have fire in them, don't you?" I asked. "Yes, they are alive.....they have thoughts and get sad." I was fishing for an open door and I said "Bob, I explored Glendale today, you mentioned a Norton street, I remember turning off of Norton onto Glenoaks. I drove around a little and came to an area where there were three schools all next to each other. There was a grade school, a Junior High School, and a High School. He said, "That is the grade school I went to....Mark Keppel....I went there from Kindergarten through Fifth grade, and then my folks moved to another area in Glendale and I then went to Richardson D. White for sixth grade.......I really missed my classmates and friends" I then said: "I bet you had a best friend....maybe even a girl friend." "There WAS a girl I really liked and I think she liked me too, she gave me a note in first grade that said she loved me......her name was Jeanette......Bingo! (to be continued)
