THE BIRTH OF A NEW DAY

I awakened and looked at my watch.  The hands and positions on the face glowed in the dark for which I was thankful.  The first light of day was minutes away and I wanted Bob to watch it with me.  I went outside and relieved myself and noticed the Crescent moon was behind a Pine tree on top  of a  ridge across a canyon,  One tip was right at the tip of the top of the tree so it reminded me of a finger nail balancing on a tree top.  Bob stuck his head out of the tent and I pointed the moon and tree to him.  He said "wow...let's hike up to there and see if we can find that tree.  That is a secret tree."  He climbed out of the tent and my attention was drawn to ....a.....protrusion sticking out of his underpants.  This is an evil age and natural things that once were just a part of growing up became the focal point of the worst kind of perversion.  Remember, I came from 2012.  He pulled down his undies and in full sight he relieved himself. I did not watch but went back in tent.  I was beginning to suspect his obvious attention to private parts might be his doubts about himself and he wanted another opinion.  This was sensitive ground and I thought of his parent's trust in me and I would not want to do or say any thing  that I would not do if they were here with me.  Bob came back into the tent and informed me it was hard to pee when he had a hard on.  He then asked if I had that trouble and I told him we were all the same and that some things were to be  kept to themselves.  We dressed and built another fire.  Bob knew that there must be live coals underneath  all that ash and indeed there were.  He gathered some pine needles and fanned them and we had a nice beginning to a fire.  I got the bacon and eggs out of the ice chest and brought out my old coffee urn and made coffee.  I had brought one of those five gallon bottles of drinking water. Bob told me it was his job to take the empty ones off the stand and put a new one on.  He told me that one time he dropped a full bottle and the room was filled with sparkling water!  The breakfast was really good.  the eggs got too  hot around the edges of the whites and they were all crinkly and brown.  Only on a camping trip do they taste good that way. Bob was ready to hike and see if we could find his "secret tree."   The birth of the day was complete....the labor pains of a subtle light of Eastern sky....the crowning of the highets peaks...light moving down the tree trunks.  It always fascinated me how the Forest Floor was slow to wake up.  So dark compared to the light in the tree tops. We poured water on the fire, made sure we had our canteens..a compass,  my snake venom and first aid kit and we lit off on our trek to find the secret tree...."the one that the Moon perched on"    (To be continued)
